MISSONI + TARGET = NAHHHH-SEVEN-YAHHH

Ok. Is it creepy that both Kelly and I are having MAJE (read: major) anxiety about the Missoni for Target collaboration? As D-Day (it launches September 13th) looms on the multi-colored horizon, we find ourselves going to sleep every night with visions of Missoni’s zig-zag’s, lurex-woven knits, mod florals…and unfortunately, the Targé (i hate that phrase, but it seemed apropos) bullseye dancing through our heads.

However, I think I (Jordan) have crossed over to the dark side. No matter how many alarms, Outlook calendar reminders, calls to Target’s corporate headquarters to beg at no avail for pre-orders, (to steal a phrase from the Kardashians: “BIBLE”…I did this ) I just can’t relax.

And this is what it boils down to- I am just so scared to MISS out. (no pun intended).

Remember in Saved by the Bell when Jesse Spano is jacked up on caffeine pills and she goes “I’m so excited, I’m so excited! I’m so, so scared!!”.

That is me in a nutshell. Just call me ‘Mama’. (omg. please don’t.)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I know, I know, it will all be on eBay within minutes, and the picked-over pieces will be available here and there…But there’s something so satisfying about getting it from the source.

I’ve asked myself what the obsession is, and 1) Missoni is a brand I’ve always loved. It’s timeless, amazingly chic and beautiful. 2) I think getting everything I want from this collection says, I’m punctual, I’m in the know, I’m a domestic goddess (ha!) and my home, self and life are covered in Missoni-hued chic happiness…which I got for an AMAZING price!

 Most importantly, it says, I was part of a retail miracle.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Is that so much to ask? All I want is to feel my Nahhhh-Seven-Yahhh moment! You know, like Simba. (see below)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After 15 years of belting out these words and incorporating them into my daily lingo whenever “something amazing happened out of nowhere”, (i.e. “I found my passport, now I can actually leave for Europe tomorrow, nahhhh-seven-yahhhh!) I discovered that the words in the intro of the “Circle of Life” song I’m referring to are actually “Nants ingonyama”

 

Which apparently translates to [Here comes a lion, Father]. Sounds about right.

 

No wonder I get so many strange looks when I say that to people…hmmmm.

ps. doesn’t the sunset on the Serengeti Plain look un peu like a Missoni print? There are hidden messages in every Disney movie they say…a sign, perhaps? ;)

So as you can see, it’s getting nuts over here. The other day I actually felt myself feeling BAD for brides who just got married and registered and received the original Missoni china as gifts. Like, are they just angry every day? Or just really skinny? The dishes in the Target collection are a dead-ringer for Missoni’s original china. I mean, that was super sweet of Margherita and all, but aren’t people MAD?

For once, I actually felt happy that at 28 I’m NOT yet married, and won’t have to look at those gorgeously pricey floral dishes (that I have been coveting for 4 years) with anger and loss of appetite every time I eat off of them.

Instead, I will dig into my Missoni for Target bowl of mac-n-cheese (hey, never said I could cook) with satisfaction and excitement. Wait, maybe this is a bad thing after all…

That is if everything isn’t SOLD OUT.

It ends October 22nd, but really it’s going to end September 13th at 1am. And chaos will ensue.

Have I weirded you out sufficiently yet? I don’t blame you. But, just when I thought it was ONLY me, I got a text from my best friend Emily the other day.

Here’s a blurb from our pathetic text convo:

E (7:54pm): “Is it weird that I’m having major anxiety about the missoni for target release?”

J(me): STOP IT!!! how have we not talked about this?? I am too!! I have it set on my outlook calendar. I’m so nervous it’s going to be sold out

E: ME TOO!!!!!

J: I like talked to [another friend] about it for 40 min the other day + told her how nervous I was! Freak. Haha

J: I need everything.

E: Lol!!!

J: LOL

J: Esp the BIKE

E: Omg I’m dying over the bike

E: I feel like I’ll never get what I want

E: Me too! I don’t know what to do

J: Hahhaha same! Don’t tell anyone about it!

E: I’m not! Lol I see people FB-ing about it and I’m like SHHH

J: hahahhaa same!

J: It will be on ebay if we miss it. I’m going to wait online at midnight on Sept 12th for that sh**

E: you and me both sister

E: I wish I was on the east coast

J: Well online is online so it will be the same time

J: I’ve been calling to see if I can make pre-orders. No luck. I’m going to call again

E: Yes! Let me know

J: I will!

E: I’d like to submit a few preorders

J: um SAMESIES.

E: Wait so at midnight NYC time it will be avail?

J (8: 38pm): idk. I’m hoping. I need to do some research.

E (2:04 am): I feel like we should divide and conquer for the missoni stuff. Make a list and go! When it’s avail

J: Yes! I called targ last night and was on hold 4ever. Tried to submit question online too. calling again tomorrow.

AMBER ALERT: If you’re still reading this, it means that you just might be as weird as me…but the good news is that you’ll really enjoy what’s coming next!

(and I mean, you’re even lucky we’re sharing them with you…we’ve talked to like negative 2 people about this total. It’s as though we’ve taken a vow of silence. When I see press on this launch, something inside me feels disheartened. In some twisted way, I feel like the less people that know about it…the more for us. Ok, ME.)

 

As you can imagine, this blog post was a huge point of contention, to share or not to share? But what can we say, we felt it was our DUTY to say what everyone is REALLY thinking.

 And if you still think we’re crazy, just watch this Missoni for Target Video. It’s everything. SIGH.

 And for goodness sake, don’t tell anyone about this!
